Unusual Northern Thai Buddhist image made from dense red clay pottery from Nan with integrated Lanna and Lanxang influence, circa 18th century. I have an earlier bronze image from Nan displaying the same deep chested and solid pose along with a similar finial on my site, item #3086. The have broken ear lobes which would have been quite pendulous show a clear affinity with Lanna/Lao style Buddha images. Although clay amulet votive plaques are quite ubiquitous larger clay images are very rare. H: 19cm/7.5in and W: (at base) 9.5cm/3.8in. There is one chip on the side noted in last enlargement.
