Nice old painting of Chung Kwei (Cantonese), Zhong Kui (Putonghua), and signed Wang Hua-Long, (born 1864- died 1948) from Qimen County Anhui Province. Undated but most likely late Qing to early Republic. Chung Kwei is the “Ghostbuster” of Chinese folklore. With his fierce countenance he conquers and subdues demons to give protection from evil and bring good fortune. This painting has been remounted and to some extent repaired so please examine enlargements carefully. IMHO the famous Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune often emulated this character in many of his early movie posters who was also popular in Japan, known as Shōki. Mounted dimensions~ L: 187cm/74in x W: 52cm/20.5in, and unmounted L: 83cm/33in x W: 39cm/15.5in.
