Antique Dayak Mandau handle

Exceptionally fine and rare Dayak parang handle, from the Orang Ulu, Sarawak, circa 19th CE. Both Dayak and Orang Ulu are more geographic designations rather than specific an ethnic group. Dayak refers to a Borneo native and Orang Ulu is an upriver dweller (inland tribe). In my opinion this piece is most likely Kayan, one of a number of Orang Ulu groups. This piece really is “museum quality” in that it is as good as or better than the ones I saw in Ethnographic exhibition at The Kuching Museum, Sarawak. Excellent naturally worn patina with fascinating and elaborate carving made from the base of a sambar deer antler. There has been a small amount of epoxy added at the perpendicular end of the handle (noted in last enlargement. H: 14.5cm/5.9in and W: 7.4cm/2.9in
