| Very fine and exquisite Northern Thai, Chiang Saen style lime container. Authentic old Thai silver is now difficult to find as most good pieces are bought by private Thai collectors. This piece is unusual in that it is open worked repoussé and does not have a hinge which is the most common form of these hemispherical shaped boxes, perhaps it was originally made as a potpourri but as there is caked lime residue inside it functioned as such. The silver content is quite high at least 90% plus, I have left the tarnished patina as is but this piece will clean up very nicely. It is not uncommon for Thais and Burmese to let heirloom silver to tarnish to almost a black lacquer patina. This piece about 80 years old. W: 7.5cm/3in and H: 4.7cm/1.8in. | ||||||||||||
