| Very unique ensemble of rattan and bamboo splitting knives circa 60 to 90 years old. As with all old Thai things even their simple daily use items were done with style and beauty, nowadays this sort of thing is imported in mass quantities from China. These tools would have been used to cut and split rattan and bamboo etc to create everything from baskets, village house walls to fish traps. All the cutting edges are still sharp and usable, the last one an old split which is secured by a metal band, otherwise they are all in excellent condition. Of note; the last knife appears to have the same translucent and shimmering characteristics as the much sought after Huanghuali wood, and might well be Huanghuali. See enlargements for scale. | |||||||||||||||
