| Very rare and unusual small Burmese Buddha from the Mon culture circa 17th to 18th centuries. The nimbus behind the Buddha and the way the ears follow the neckline to the shoulder are typical of later Mon sculpture. There was quite a bit of hard crusty stuff that I had to clean off that reveals a fine patina with traces of gilt. It will clean up further with a little patience and effort although I do not think that the gilding would salvageable if scrubbed and picked at too much. This is a fine little piece, quite well cast and sculpturally well balanced. H: 10.2cm/4in and W: (at base) 3.9cm/1.5in. | |||||||||||
