Sioux Beaded Hide Saddle Blanket
Sioux saddle blanket with beadwork, hide, and hawk bell and fringe suspensions, circa 1870-1880. Original hide central panel with Native repairs. The majority of saddle blankets have a central canvas or muslin panel as a replacement to the worn out hide. This hide panel is original. Provenance: Nelson Atkins Museum, Kansas City, Missouri; museum number: 31-125/121. Dimensions: 79" length (total including fringe); 43" length (central panel): 26" width (total); 5 3/4" width (beaded band)
