Hopi Polychrome Wood Rügan Kachina Doll *Rügan Rasp Kachina -A class of male kachinas that come in groups, accompanied by the Corn Maidens, who play on rasp musical instruments. There are said to be various types who have the same songs but my informants could not name or describe them all. The feather headdress made of four eagle feathers, two projecting horizontally above each ear, seems to be characteristic of all kachinas called Rügan. *Rügan B Rasp Kachina - White case mask with red, yellow corn symbols on cheekcs, blue and red border to face, tube mouth. Costume same as above. Height: 11 1/4 inch Width: 4 inch C. 1900 (Possibly a VOLZ type because of the position of the arms, and the way the back of the calves are carved under the kilt.) *Squash blossom attached on the side of case mask.
