A large Ifugao bulul acquired near Baguio, Philippines in 1978. In sitting position to guard the rice reserves. Ifugao culture is based on rice which is considered to be a prestige crop. The bulul guards this granary and is treated with respect. It is carved from narra or ipil wood and is particularly heavy. The bulul is touched by hands dipped in blood of a chicken and this was the case by the author upon buying this bulul. The bulul takes this dark color from the chicken blood as well as grease offerings. In good condition with some natural knots and cracks in the wood (visible in pictures)
