| A touch of history ... French golden Victorian diamonds ladies ring. OBJECT GROUP : rings COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe it is of French origin. STYLE : Victorian PERIOD : 1900 MATERIAL : 18K bi-color gold (yellow and white), although most of this jewel is in yellow gold, the diamonds are set in white gold. This finds it origin in a much older period where it was common for diamonds to be set in silver (see explanation on silver on gold). DIAMONDS : Three old mine brilliant cut diamonds with a total estimated weight of approx. 0.05 crt. WEIGHT : 2.30 gram (1.48 dwt) HALLMARKS : French origin since 1838 - eagle's head - We are sure of the origin of this jewel because of the control mark representing an eagle’s head (that was in use in France from about 1838).
