| Watercolor and gouache on Whatman's artboard, 16 1/2 x 10 3/4 inches, 27 1/4 x 21 inches framed, signed lower right. Dawson was the most famous English dog portraitist of her time. She produced many etchings and book illustrations. She was also commissioned to paint the Royal Family's favorite Corgi, subsequently reproduced as a family Christmas card. Most of her canine subjects were small terriers and spaniels. This sensitive Chihuahua portrait is unusual in her oeuvre and most appealing. | ||
