Fine Oni-Shino chawan by Mino traditional potter, Murata Juko (b.1922). The Oni-Shino surface is a wonderful blend of fissured Shino with areas of rich iron about the exterior and covering most of the interior. The robust and inviting form has a very purposeful stance and displays well and feels great in the hand. The foot is boldly cut making maximum use of the texture of the mogusa clay.

Murata Juko studied with three of the 20th century's most important potters; Kato Kobei V, Kato Toku...

The vivid iron slip shows, like a shadow, under the feldspar Shino glaze with rich areas of natural green glassy ash coating the surface and iron accents about the lip and showing through the surface. There are also frosty white areas on the face of the bowl where Tsukigat...
