Slender and noble hanaire with excellent faceted planes and spatula marks accentuated by "ripped" clay at the facet edges. This pot was glazed in a thick nuka glaze and then covered in a runny ash glaze that has pooled glaze on the lip, shoulder and at other points. Measuring 23 x 9.25cm this vase is in excellent condition and is a striking example of ware made for the tea ceremony (chadogu) that Richard Milgrim is so well known and respected for.

Though born in the US, Richard Milgrim mad...

Traditional wood fired Aka-Shino chaire made by the late Kato Yasukage XIV prior to changing his name to Yasukage and thus the box is signed Kato Shoji. Elegant and traditional in form with quick, gestural spatula marks on the front and back the rich, nearly crimson iron surface is painted with a nice dusting of wood ash from the wood firing with throwing marks adding to the overall decoration. This is one of the nicest chaire by Kato Yasukage XIV that I have seen and the blend of form, texture,...

Distinctly fired mizusashi resembling stacked stones, this Sueki influenced Shigaraki mizusashi is absolutely timeless having the appearance of a piece medieval pot or a modern, abstract sculpture based on stones placed on top of one another. Made by Takahashi Makoto this feudal pot was fired in an anagama where it partially sat in a charcoal bed imbuing the piece with a variety of grey and stone colors with areas of rich ash having a pate-de-verre style surface at several points. Though fiercel...

Phenomenal and classic Mino-Iga style vase with unquestionably the finest wood fired surface I have ever seen by Mizuno Takuzo. Large and solitary in its presence, the wide array of textures and coloration paints a unique and powerful form that few can achieve and I doubt I will see a pot with this varied a surface again the ferocity of the firing process is written across the surface. Perfect for use or just as a point of contemplation, this Mino-Iga vase stands alone among the tradition.

Classic devil's bucket style Shigaraki mizusashi by veteran master craftsman, Tani Seiuemon I. This impressive and well fired Shigaraki mizusashi was thrown and has a rich surface and a lid that sits well on the turned in mouth. Fired in an anagama wood fired kiln for nearly a week, the resulting effects paint the surface with deposits of natural ash some of which turn to glass across the surface. Though fired with the lid in place, the velocity of the fire pushed ash into the interior which set...
