This noble vase with flared mouth is by Ningen Kokuho, Living National Treasure; Shimizu Uichi (1926-2004). The vase is glazed in a complex partridge feather yohen iron glaze over a wonderful and stark white stoneware clay body.
Shimizu Uichi (Un’ichi) was a pioneer in iron glazes and was best known for his various iron glazes and his kannyu crackle celadons. This vase is a great example of his complex iron glazes and shows a wonderful texture throughout with areas of a rich dark glaze around the mouth and flared neck with a sheen or iridescence about the body. 9.2” X 4” The vase is prominently stamped on the inside of the foot. In the original signed box with a stamped tea cloth attached. This is a real beauty in person! |
