MEDIEVAL STYLE IGA CHAWAN BY FURUTANI KAZUYA
Sold, Thank you.

An extremely well fired Iga chawan by Shigaraki and Iga potter; Furutani Kazuya. This medieval styled chawan has a pleasant cylindrical form with areas of running ash, dusted ash and hi-iro along with clamshell impressions from where the bowl rested while being fired. The interior is coated in a rich olive toned ash and a thick pool of ash which built up due to the angle at which the chawan was placed in the kiln. All the ash and effects came about through natural means while being fired in an anagama kiln.

Furutani Kazuya’s works are in great demands as he has been creating works for a large number of exhibitions across Japan over the last handful of years. Son of the legendary Furutani Michio, Kazuya is carrying on the tradition and style of firing that he inherited from his father to great success and with growing confidence and a worthy successor to his teacher and father. This chawan measures 13 x 8.5cm, in fine original condition and is accompanied with his original signed box.
