This rare piece-uncertain of age, but the shield is probably early 19thc- the two Viking swords are much earlier- steel shield has rust but intricate Nordic designs are apparent and might have later brass band on edges-the sword with the wood handle has a drying crack-has high quality carving with fine patina and distinctive form with distinctive metal blade, hand forged that still sharp on both sides--the other sword with broad blade, having blood runners also sharp on both sides--pommel is hand forged as well as blade-the hilt is iron covered with wood and old hand tooled leather flap-handle is wrapped with braided leather-the provenance of the piece is that it was from the Royal Caribbean lines on a retired cruise ship named the Viking-it adorned the ships main dining room and ended up in a steamship line reception center in San Juan Puerto Rico--from there it fell into my hands--have not removed weapons from wood mounting=shield diameter is 24 inches-both swords 40 inches--
