This unique Olmec maskette is made from Guatemalan Imperial Green Jadeite and Imperial Blue Jadeite. It is an Omphacite/chloromelanite jade which "GemSelect" describes as the rarest and most valuable type of jade. Leoncio A. Garza-Valdes in the book "Precolumbian Jade" states "Omphacites are known as mesoamerican imperial jades". It probably contains inclusions of precious metals of silver, gold, and platinum. These metals can be seen in the pictures as spots or flecks. This variety of Olmec Blue jade is exceptionally pure. The green is bright, intense, vivid, hot and electric. Described as fit for kings and gods. It is extremely fine grained. It dates to 1200-600BC. It measures 2 1/2" long, 2" wide and 1" deep. It was evaluated by the top three authenticators in the country. It was first authenticated by Dr. Frank Preusser who has more than 35 years of experience in the scientific examination of works of art and historical and archaeological artifacts. He was the chief scientist at the Doerner Institute in Munich and the Director of the J. Paul Getty Museum. He has consulted for UNESCO, the World Bank, the World Monuments Fund, and others. It was also authenticated by Stoetzerinc.com who is one of the foremost respected international authenticators. It comes with his report. It was also authenticated by Orenda Forensic Labs and comes with their 10 page report. I sent authenticator, Bill Breckinridge, pictures who stated "I haven't commented on your mask pictures because I can't think of anything adequate to say. What a treasure. Truly a world class piece of art, anthropology and mineralogy. I am beyond impressed" It has a sense of majesty and power about it. It is an unparalleled hand piece. It is impossible to over exaggerate the beauty and quality of this truly extraordinary maskette. It is perfect in every way. The superlative translucence is beyond compare. This is the most wondrous piece of jade I have ever seen. It is a mystery of mineralogy. This gemstone is so unique, it was obviously carved in order to preserve, protect and immortalize its importance with the quality of the carving being equal to the quality of the jade.
