Olmec Jade Standing Figure 5 1/4" 1200-600BC
This incredible Olmec standing figure is 5 1/4 inches high (13.5cm) and 2 inches wide (5cm). It is made from beautiful opaque Olmec blue jade. The right arm was broken off in ancient times. The figure is represented in the back as transforming into a bird, with the back of the head, ears, and upper strap muscles of the figure's back forming the image of the head, eyes, and beak. It has incised iconography on the front and back. Please refer to my other Olmec standing figure LS20127 which is 8 3/4". Both these figures were found together and have the same provenance. They were found in Puebla, Mexico in the 1960's. Both these figures will be featured in an upcoming book on Olmec iconography which will surely increase their value. Please e-mail for high resolution photos which are too large to upload.
