DESCRIPTION: Two handsome hand-thrown Japanese pottery jugs (tokkuri) made to store sake (rice wine) and dating from the latter Edo Period, C. 1860. The texture of the thick brown glaze is rich to the eyes and touch, and each has fluid kanji script applied in white slip to various sides of the jars, probably denoting the name of the sake shop...
