DESCRIPTION: A good pair of Chinese Scholar’s scroll weights crafted from ebonized hardwood, and inlaid with stone and mother of pearl in a “Three Friends of Winter” motif. The “Three Friends of Winter” was a popular motif grouping pine, prunus and bamboo, said to represent the qualities of a scholar: perseverance, longevity and vitality despite adversity. Very good condition and dating from the latter Qing Dynasty, early 20th C. DIMENSIONS: Each 14 ¾” long (37.5 cm) x 1 5/8” wide (4.1 cm) x 1 1/8” high (3 cm).
