Small Chinese Boxwood Toggle of a Lock, 18th C.
DESCRIPTION: A very old toggle crafted from boxwood in the form of a Chinese lock with etched designs and a flower in the center. This toggle has a wonderful worn patina that only comes from age and handling. Strung with a cord through the center hole formed by the lock, it would have hung from a sash and been used as a counterweight to a tobacco pouch or other utilitarian object. A wonderful example of Chinese folk art, this antique toggle dates from the 1700s. DIMENSIONS: 1 3/8 wide (3.5 cm) x 7/8 high (2.2 cm).
