Antique Silk Chinese Robe, Royal Blue and Gold

DESCRIPTION: A silk satin royal blue Chinese robe with gold thread embroidery of peaches (symbol of longevity) and pomegranates (symbol of fertility). Enveloping the shoulders is a bib with gold floral design on a black silk ground. The front is closed using three frog button closures with the original embossed metal buttons. This robe was originally purchased in Beijing in the early 1900s and has been held in the same family since that time. CONDITION: All the fabric and embroidery are in very good to excellent condition with no losses or tears, and the colors remain bright; the inner light blue silk lining has some fading/staining, especially around the collar, but no tears. DIMENSIONS: Horizontally from sleeve tip to tip is 56 (1.44 meters) x 36 (93 cm) length from shoulder to hem.
