| DESCRIPTION: An elaborately and crisply carved wooden figure of a Buddhist lion (lion dog, foo dog, shi shi), lacquered in red and green with heavy gilt highlights. With his head turned to one side and teeth bared, the lion carries on his back a flower shaped saddle with hanging drapes and tassels. His tail is held high and his mane falls in curls down his side. This good sized figure is quite animated and the detail is remarkable from any angle. All together, a very appealing piece of sculpture executed by a master Chinese carver; Qing Dynasty. CONDITION: Lacquer has flakes, no splits in the wood. DIMENSIONS: 10” wide (25.4 cm) x 10 ¾” high (27.3 cm). | |||||||||||||||
