DESCRIPTION: A unique Japanese ivory okimono of a mischievous bearded oni, carved to be in perfect balance as he performs several acrobatic poses. The skill and planning of the carver is evident as the two-horned oni goes from balancing on one leg, to one hand, to a seated position. Also imbued by the carver is wonderful animation and detail in the oni's face, muscular back and arms, and the oni's fur loin cloth. Dating from the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912), this okimono is in good condition with probable old repair to fingers on one hand. DIMENSIONS: When seated, 3" long (7.6 cm) x 1 3/4" high (4.5 cm).
