Fine Japanese Bronze of Fukurokuju, Meiji
DESCRIPTION: A fine and very sculptural bronze of Fukurokuju, the Japanese god of wisdom and longevity. Depicted with a high-domed bald head and a long white beard (symbolizing great wisdom and age), he holds a staff with a scroll containing the world’s wisdom. This Fukurokuju has a bright, serene face and a dignity enhanced by the impeccable bronze detail and finish. Excellent sculptural workmanship and condition. Script seal signature is on the lower back right side of figure. Absolutely an exquisite bronze piece dating from the Meiji Period, 1868 – 1912. DIMENSIONS: 9 1/2” high (24 cm) x 6” wide (15.2 cm).
