This bronze and champleve enamel inkwell measures 9 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches wide by about 4 inches in depth. It dates from the 18th thru early 19th Century in Europe (most likely Russia or France). It is in excellent condition, except for the loss of the original glass or ceramic ink liner. Most of the gilding on the base remains. It consists of a heavy gilt bronze base with conjoined shell motifs, an enamelled neck and atop with a seated bronze swan with raised wings. |
