This New Zealand Maori Jade Carved Hei Tiki measures 2 3/4 inches by 2 inches and is about 3/8 of an inch in thickness. It dates from the early 20th century or even earlier. It is carved from an outstanding piece of deep green jade with a small, lighter colored feather in between the eyes. The edges show translucence when held up to the light. The third close up photo shows a somewhat similar carving with a much higher estimate that is an illustration in a recent book on Tribal art. The illustration of another old jade tiki with a $6,000 -$10,000.00 estimate is only shown for comparison. It is not being offered here. |
