The marks on the back are deep and clear and date the spoon to 1819, during the reign of William III, almost 200 years old. This beautiful sterling silver master butter knife in the Raphael pattern by Gorham dates to about 1874. It is 7-7/8" long and weighs 49.1 g. or 31.6 dwt., or 1.58 toy ounces. The elaborate pattern on the handle is amazingly crisp for its age of almost 140 years. There is a Gothic monogram in the shield on the handle that looks more or less like McF. There is very fine bright cut engraving on the blade. The mark on the back of the handle is the old Gorham logo of the lion/anchor/G, Pat. 74, Sterling. Not only is this piece beautiful, but it is also useful for butter, cream cheese, pate. Shipping and insurance within the U.S. is included in the price.
