This exquisite Georgian leaf pin is executed primarily in silver with the bug on top set in gold. The leaf is 1-3/8" wide, just under 1-1/2" by 1-1/8". It is pave set in silver with fine, clear old small turquoise cabochons and topped by a bug in gold. The bug has a baroque white pearl body, possibly a natural pearl, with a bezel set faceted ruby center, bezel set ruby eyes and 10 rose cut diamonds on the wings. There are no stones missing. The pin on the back appears to be original with an updated safety clasp to replace the original C clasp. Even the setting on the silver back has an elaborate design in a place where only the wearer would see it. The pin dates to about 1830. There are no marks, and the pin may be French to judge from the fine work.

This special and fine cameo brooch or pin is set in 14K yellow gold. The original C-clasp is present on the back, which dates the brooch to the Victorian period of the 19th century, around 1860-1880. It measures 1-3/4" high by 1-1/2" wide. The very finely carved shell cameo is set in a 14K yellow gold bezel, which is surrounded by exquisite gray seed pearls, further surrounded by a delicate narrow, textured gold border. The entire expanse of the back is 14K yellow gold. There are no marks, but I have tested the gold and guarantee that it is 14K. It is possible that the beautiful image of the woman in profile with a profusion of flowers intertwined with her curls is Proserpine. She is the ancient Roman goddess whose story is the basis of a myth of spring. The condition is excellent, no damage to the cameo, no missing pearls, no damage to the gold.
