This art glass bottle vase is 9" high, 5.5" wide at the base, 1 - 2" deep. The bottom is signed Kosta Boda Artist Coll B. Vallien 89252. The designation Artist Collection indicates that it is a special limited edition. Although a single blossom or branch could be inserted in the neck, this is purely decorative sculptural art work that was not necessarily intended to have a practical function. Bertil Vallien is one of the most prominent glass artists, and his work appears in many museum collections. The vase dates to about the 1970's, and the condition is excellent, no damage.

I have two hand painted antique porcelain dessert plates 8-3/4" in diameter, both with pattern number 4100 on the back. There is no maker's mark, but I am reasonably certain that the plates are English from about 1830-1850. They are in excellent condition, and the slightly translucent porcelain rings nicely when lightly tapped. The landscape scenes in the centers, as well as the gilding on both plates, is in excellent antique condition. The apple green ground is highly attractive. The listed price is for both plates. After more than 150 years, these plates should stay together.

This fun and elegant fan is about 10-1/2" high and about 18" wide when fully extended. The feathers are very soft ostrich feathers and appear to be in excellent vintage condition. The black sticks are carved with stars, circles and half moons, with applied paste jewels here and there. The sticks appear to be either bakelite or light weight wood and in good condition, no cracks or chips. According to The Letts Guide to Collecting Fans by Susan Mayor, this type of fan was used up to the 1930's.

This striking plate or bowl in Flygsfors glass from Sweden is 13-1/4" in diameter, about 1-3/4" high. It weighs about 7 lbs., so it's quite heavy. The pinwheel design is executed in cranberry pink and white cased in clear glass. It is marked on the bottom Flygsfors 56 for 1956. There are no cracks or chips, just some scratches, especially on the bottom and a few minor scratches on top, to be expected in vintage glass that is almost 60 years old. The design looks like it could have been done today. Flygsfors is included in Fifties Glass by Leslie Pina. This is classic, high quality mid century glass at an amazingly reasonable price.

This original bronze medal for the Hartford Fire Insurance Company was issued in 1921 and commemorates the 111th anniversary of the company. The obverse has an image of the main office building, and the reverse has an airplane or bird's eye view of the home office grounds and athletic field. The medal measures 112 mm or 4" in diameter and weighs 306.4 g or 10.8 oz. The edge is marked with the maker Whitehead-Hoag. According to my research, the artist was Jonathan Swanson. I am not an expert on medals, but the condition looks very good to me, especially for an item that is 93 years old. It has not been polished and appears to have some slight soiling on the edge.

I have never seen another version of this vintage '50's glass bowl in the form of an artist's palette, including a large opening for the finger. It measures 13" long, 10" wide, 2-1/4" high. The predominant color is cranberry or deep pink over white on the bottom, all cased in clear glass, with five spots of blue to represent the paint. The only mark on the bottom is Flygsfors without a date. Leslie Pina discusses Flygsfors glass in her book Fifties Glass and observes that many of the pieces were more sculpture than functional glass. This bowl could certainly be used for fruit, etc. but it makes a great display piece without the fruit.

This bronze cow is about 4" high x 8-1/2" long x 4" deep. There is a beautiful, even dark brown patina, and the details are crisp. The ribs are visible on the body and the face and hooves are finely modeled. I have not found a signature. I am not sure whether the cow is Japanese or Chinese, and I have received expert opinions for both. It dates to the 19th century. It is a fine piece in excellent condition. I would note that there is a diagonal seam on the bottom with a rectangular piece at the end. I believe that the seam and the rectangle are part of the original construction, since the patina is smooth on the bottom.

This fine Chinese export porcelain bowl dates to about 1780. It is about 2-3/4" high, 5-1/2" in diameter at the top. The sides are decorated with rose like flowers, a scroll and a couple of dragonflies and a large veined pink leaf that could be a tobacco leaf. Both the outside and inside rims are decorated with an orange/red stripe highlighted in gold. The inside of the bowl has roses around the top and a single rose in the center. The condition is excellent, no cracks or chips, and the porcelain rings nicely when tapped. There is very minor rubbing in the color at the top of the scroll near the rim and very slight fading in the rose at the bottom of the bowl. After all, this piece is about 235 years old.

This Flygsfors coquille sculpture or vase measures 20" high. A similar piece is pictured on page 130 in Fifties Glass by Leslie Pina and described as follows: "Organic shape with four stretched appendages, the milk glass center cased with [orange] and clear crystal, and one of the most fantastic sculptural forms of the ... series, in which function is no longer taken seriously." Indeed, this piece is more of a sculpture for display, rather than a true vase. The glass is green, white and clear. The bottom is engraved Flygsfors 63 on one side and Coquille on the other side. (The Coquille mark is not pictured.) The designer artist is Paul Kedelv. The condition is excellent, with some scratches on the bottom, consistent with age. There are no cracks or chips. This is an iconic piece of 60's Swedish art glass, ideal for the discerning collector.

This beautiful sterling silver master butter knife in the Raphael pattern by Gorham dates to about 1874. It is 7-7/8" long and weighs 49.1 g. or 31.6 dwt., or 1.58 toy ounces. The elaborate pattern on the handle is amazingly crisp for its age of almost 140 years. There is a Gothic monogram in the shield on the handle that looks more or less like McF. There is very fine bright cut engraving on the blade. The mark on the back of the handle is the old Gorham logo of the lion/anchor/G, Pat. 74, Sterling. Not only is this piece beautiful, but it is also useful for butter, cream cheese, pate. Shipping and insurance within the U.S. is included in the price.

This Chinese Export porcelain bowl is 10" in diameter, 3-3/4" high. It dates to about 1814-20, which makes it about 200 years old. There is an elaborate overall design inside the bowl which includes deep blue and white flowers and border designs. There are figures in a scene with trees, a table and covered terrace with mountains in the background painted in polychrome. There is slight fading in the colors in the bottom of the bowl, but the picture is still pretty clear. There are polychrome designs inside the four blue and white cartouches around the sides of the bowl. There were elaborate gold flowers and scrolls around the sides of the inside of the bowl, but the gold is quite worn. There are no cracks, and the porcelain rings clearly when tapped. There are two small chips, one on the foot ring, which is not visible from the top, and a small rim chip that is about 1/8" wide. The rim chip is mostly on the underside of the rim, and is barely noticeable from the top. I try to be precise about describing defects, no matter how minor, and it probably sounds like the condition of this bowl is worse than it really is. This is an extraordinary survivor of two centuries and is in quite good overall condition.

This purple blown glass chandelier is approximately 12-1/2" high, not including the chain at the top or the ceiling cap, which is 5-1/4" in diameter. For the sake of safety a new socket has been inserted, and the wiring is new. When installed the glass top for the chandelier must be secured to the bottom with wires in the loops on both the top and bottom. When a bulb is placed inside the glass, the purple color of the glass becomes lighter and casts a soft light. The glass appears to be blown into a mold, probably Bohemian glass. The decorative wiring applied to the glass emphasizes the subtle quilting pattern in the glass. The condition is excellent, it dates to about the 1920-'30's. This chandelier would make a beautiful accent piece in a foyer, bathroom, etc.

This unusual pendant/pin is 2-1/4" long, 1-3/8" wide. The large oval base of the piece is rutilated quartz. The bee in the center is 14K yellow gold with an onyx and diamond body, tiny diamonds on the tips of the wings, a ruby eye and a ruby held by the legs. The flower at the top is 14K yellow gold and forms the hooks for the pendant on the back, as well as the holder for the pin on the back. There are no marks, but I have tested the metal and guarantee that it is 14K. This is a fun pendant that can be worn on a sweater or directly on the skin. It dates to about the 1950-1960's, and the condition is excellent.
