Very interesting optician's ivory ruler. I don't know how this would be used but it all seems to be related to measuring eyes and related "stuff". Nice, even grain throughout. There is a crack right down the middle that follows right down one of the measurement lines. It looks like possibly etching the line along the ivory grain caused it to separate a bit and this was fixed by adding the small metal piece at the end with the 4 tiny rivets...

Exceptional quality Indo Persian shield dating to late 18th or early 19th century. Gold and silver floral design throughout obverse. At one point gold and silver relief was entirely offset by fine black enamel work. Over the centuries the black enamel has largely worn from the center, raised section but remains thick on the lower, outer portions. This does afford the piece an honest and tasteful aged appearance...

We are proud to offer this much sought reference book. W.M. Hawley's 1981 Japanese Swordsmiths Revised is a classic in the industry and an extremely important source of information on tens of thousands of samurai sword makers. Condition is superb with smooth binding and crisp, clean and undamaged pages. There is one depression on the upper spine that is exaggerated in the photo below. I find no other condition issues.

Small Samurai tanto in the style of an armor piercing blade. Lovely lacquer mounts as shown in photographs. Scabbard fittings appear to be silver. Tang is unsigned. Blade shows darkening but is smooth with no rust, pitting or nicks. Attractive piece priced fairly.

Interesting menpo. Below is an old ring mail skirt laced on. It looks like this is the correct configuration and intended use but the skirt has been laced on with a modern shoelace. Apparently a quick repair by previous owner, this is reflected in the price. Overall reasonably solid condition. The gold wire border on the skirt is frayed from age and there menpo itself has a crack on one side (Please see photos attached)...

Lovely example in wonderful condition with no damage found. Beautiful workmanship throughout. Two tone blade is extremely attractive and fits into the scabbard like a glove. The wood on handle and scabbard top is warm and healthy with a beautiful wavy grain. There are figures carved into the handle in two separate places. The ferrule has a lovely filigree style and I believe it is silver but I may be wrong...

Very nice painting of Marie Antoinette. I am not well versed on the subject but I believe this is oil on ivory. The frame is just beautiful and measures just under 15x13 cm. The labels on the back "Made in Italy" and "Hand Painted" are typical of Italian exports I believe between 1910 and 1920 but the painting is likely older then that. I am not sure what the tape on the rear is holding together as the back stand, although a bit loose, does seem to be anchored...

Nicely done bone inlay tray. I would think that this is from southeast Asia. Good sized example at 47x33cm. There is a fair amount of surface wear due to age as well as missing inlay here and there. I do not repair items but I would think that the missing inlay could be filled in and of course there are always ways to fix surface wear. The wood is a mystery to me being quite dark and having a grain that looks almost like hairs. Pretty work on this piece and priced quite fairly.

Top notch example of a very large Islamic sword with Mughal influences. 93cm from end to end and weighs out at a hair under 3.5 pounds. The handle by itself is 22cm from tip to end of langet. Whether designed for fighting or for judicial related head taking, this sword was made for business. The handle is a real work of art with gold and silver inlay throughout. The blade has further inlay work to within 5 inches of the tip...

Fine example of an antique, circa 1900 Kris knife/dagger. Very impressive workmanship in this attractive knife; See photos for details. I find one chip in the handle and some small denting to the tip end of the scabbard. Both are minor problems and more then reflected in the price.

Very cool, very large horn. This is a German hunting trophy with textbook Bavarian edelweiss motif. The inscription reads "Gewidmet v. d. beiden Revisoren Hans Fischer w. Clement Hakerl" or something like "Dedicate to the two Auditors Hans Fischer and Clement Hakerl. Translations are funny but I believe these fellows were probably more like game wardens then auditors. At any rate, it is a beautiful horn with nice, flowing dedication...
