Japanese Army Binoculars w Caps and Tropical Case WWII
Nice set of hard to find Japanese army binoculars. I am not a binocular guy but they seem to work just fine. One screw is missing from the frame but this doesn't affect anything. The metal pieces have the underlying brass peeking throughh in a couple of tiny areas where the black paint was smoothed off. The leather is generally in good shape with some small wear. I would say 95%. Also present is what looks to be the original leather neck strap. Possibly scarcer then the binoculars is this very cool tropical case with original strap and even the lens covers still in place. While the cover does show wear, nothing is broken and there is a fair amount of the original green finish (See photos). The leather closing tab and spring system are fine. The shoulder strap is in great shape with original buckle and all four riveted loops on the case to hold it in place. The extra wide belt loop on the rear is solid as well. Saving the best for last, the lens covers are still strapped to the inside lid. This binocular and case set is hard enough to find but when one is located these lens covers are almost always gone. The obvious purpose was to lower the strength of the tropical sun so the viewer could actually see something. Also on the inside lid was the American veteran's information who "liberated" the set. Unfortunately (But understandably) he blacked out his name but left the town there; Eastport Maryland. Nice set would be a welcome addition to most WWII Japanese oriented collections.
