Very cool antique Hessian regimental stein. Kanonier Hasele; 6th battery of the Hessian Field Artillery Regiment 61 of Babenhausen. Gorgeous field artillery scenes with vivid coloring throughout with raised details consistent with originals. Date of service was 1906-1908; Most soldiers serving in this time period were later called up for service in WWI. Lithophane on the bottom is a soldier shaking hands with his lady; There was a whole different series of lithophane images used on later reproductions. The lid is a bit wobbly but could easily be bent tighter. As this was an artillery unit an ingenious design trick was used; The tip was made to resemble an artillery shell fuse with appropriate numbers and markings and can be twisted off. The bottom edge of the lid shows more highly detailed artillery scenes and motif. It looks like there may have been a finial that broke off of the tip but with the fuse design this is not too noticeable. Some enterprising soul could smooth that down and it would never look like anything was missing. There is one small paint flake off of the "K" for Kanonier (See photos) but is not a big deal at all. A couple of small condition issues that are more then priced in, but these steins are fragile, over 100 years old and usually far more worn than this fine example.
