Very attractive Japanese officer dress sword with blade presentation. I can't make it all out but I believe to an officer of the 35 Infantry. I have seen such a presentation before attributed to a military school. The Mon (Or family crest) is the Mandarin Orange. One branch of the Matsudaira family used a similar crest and the Ii family used a few variations. The Ii family is a famous samurai family who, besides having an unpronounceable name, were known as the red Devils as the preferred fully red lacquered armor. Condition of this sword is top notch down to the complete wire on the grip. There are a couple of scrapes to the plating on the blade that are difficult to see but are in photos 7 and 8 attached. There is also some scraping to the plating on the scabbard drag where we would expect it to take some hits when being worn. Blade is 32.5 inches long. Overall length in scabbard including handle is just under 40 inches. All in all a very good looking sword with the terrific bonuses of a presentation and a family crest.
