| Very attractive USMC swagger stick commemorating the fellows military tour of the Mediterranean. Measures a bit over 21 inches. Very nice eagle, globe and anchor on top of his rank insignia. Below this is the plate reading "MEDITERRANEAN CRUISE USS MOUNTRAIL APA 213 U.S.M.C.". All this on white color metal on the top of the stick. Below this is a brass ring and then the cherry stained wood section. The plates added here are hard to read in the photo but read: ALMERIA SPAIN BARCELONA MALTA TURKEY IZMIR GREECE ITALY NAPLES SARDINIA. This sounds better then my honeymoon! Below these plates is a wrap of ship cord and a white metal tip on the bottom. There are a couple of dings to the wood, one dent to the back side of the white metal top and some taps to the top that are all the same size and look like they may have been intentional. None of the damage is debilitating or much of an eye sore. This piece has a lot of character and somewhere there was a Marine that must have been really proud of this. From the type of workmanship and the age I would guess it to be from the 1950's. | ||||||||||
