Imperial German Prussian Guard Damascus Lion Head Sword
Beautiful Imperial German, Prussian Guard damscus lion head sword by Mohr & Speyer Berlin. Blade is a subtle damascus throughout; Hard to photograph succesfully, but a nice pattern none the less. Gold leaf details near handle on one side shows a beautiful Prussian eagle under a crown and holding a shield with a Prussian eagle on it. The other side in gold leaf reads "Eisenhauer Damaststahl" referring to the tested quality of the blade as well as the fact that it is true damascus. On the spine and also in gold relief is the maker mark "Mohr & Speyer Berlin". There are a few tiny knicks on the edge with a foot of the tip which are just barely visible with the naked eye. The handle is a terrific lion head. The knuckle bow has a patriotic motif with helmet, swords and infantry horns. The front langet has the Prussian Guard star applied with the motto "SUUM CUIOUE". This is a star burst with the motto inside around yet another Prussian Eagle. The nickel plated scabbard shows no dents or missing parts. It does show some minor oxidation but nothing beyond what you would expect for its age and wear prone finish type. The worst is some plating loss and rust on the drag which is obviously the most exposed part. All in all, just a heck of a sword, the quality of which you do not often see for sale. I have many high end Imperial swords both, listed and unlisted, and this is the best.
