Beautifully Engraved Imperial German M-89 Hussar Sword
M-89 cavalry sword with simply stunning engraving to the Braunschweig Husaren Regiment Number 17. To the left of the unit engraving is engraved the death's head which was long the symbol of Imperial Germany's elite Hussar units long before it took on more sinister meanings. On the other side of the blade is another blackened panel depicting two columns of heavy cavalry that appear to be charging towards each other. This panel is designated "Ges Gesch" which indicates patent is pending for this particular engraving design. Also found in the engraving, but not blackened, ia a beautiful Prussian eagle, a cavalry horse, and a stand of arms including helmet, flags sword, bugle etc. Also flowing vines etched into the spine. Just a beautiful sword. The only problem with the blade is some light scratching mostly within an inc of the handle and some freckling to the plating. The handle rates excellent with a handsome Prussian eagle on the folding guard. Some oxidation to the pommel nut. Scabbard shows only normal, light ageing. Despite threelight dents on one side near the ring it is still a perfectly pleasant scabbard. This sword is a real looker and one of my favorites.
