| Nice example of a Prussian Civil Service sword. Similar to the early officer sword but a lighter weight handle. All brass fittings have matching patina and no damage. Handle is nice and tight with perfect wire twist wrap. Folding guard works perfectly with just the right amount of resistance and pleasantly pops into place. Unknicked blade features about 12 inches of delicate floral engraving with patriotic motif on both sides. Centrally located on one side is a quite handsome Prussian eagle. Spine shows similar vine engraving. Maker marged G. SCHERNICK MAGDEBERG. There are a couple of very subtle dark spots toward the tip but nothing significant. Another bonus is the scabbard. Usually leather scabbards this old are either missing or a mess; This one is structurally perfect showing very gentle wear. A nice sword that gives a good feel for the time period. | |||||||||||||
