| Yet another fantastic German book about dollhouses - Lexikon der Puppenstuben und Puppenhauser - Encyclopedia of Room Boxes and Dollhouses. After years of research Marianne Cieslik and Swantje Kohler have succeeded in putting together a comprehensive book about the German manufacturers of everything imaginable for dollhouses. From before approximately 1880 when dollhouses were first factory made, there are few records of the manufacturers of dollhouses. Yet these two ladies have found information and pictures to document their findings. From A as in AKI-Spielwarenwerke Kirchner & Co. to Z as in Robert Zoppel Nachf. 658 manufacturers are documented, from the beginning of the 19th century up to the 1960s. There are over 1100 pictures, including pages and pages from historic catalogs and advertisements, and an appendix devoted to the manufacturers of all sorts of accessories for dollhouses. This book is a must for identifying just about everything that was ever manufactured for dollhouses in Germany. Many of the texts are in telegram style so that the 'reader' can learn lots about the manufacturers even with little or no knowledge of the German language. Maybe this book could inspire the collector outside of Germany to buy at least a dictionary. | ||
