Unusual 5 pc parlour by John Jelliff. Set includes a sofa 2 side chairs and 2 arm chairs with detailed faces and carvings throughout. John Jelliff pieces which are to be found in most major museum collections are highly sought after. He was one of the most important cabinet makers in the 19th C. His Newerk New Jersey workshop produced fine furniture from 1843-1890 and is best known for Renaissance Gothic Revival parlour funtiture. The female head on his furniture reflects the Goddess-like face of Jenny Lind the opera star who P.T. Barnum introduced to this country around 1850.
