Made circa 1870 as a desk implement, to be rolled over blotting paper that absorbed excess liquid ink (when pen and ink were used). The ferns were printed on paper and glued to the painted wooden roller, then varnished. This example is in excellent condition with tiny signs of use. The rule measures 6-5/8 inches in length.

A cast iron doorstop of a cottage style house with climbing roses, shrubs and lawn. The details of the casting are sharp and the original paint is mostly intact. There is a maker's mark under white paint on the reverse side that is not clear enough to read: the numbers 124 and the copyright mark are reasonably distinct. Measurements are about nine inches wide, six inches high to the top of the chimney, and 1-7/8 inches deep.

A small ironstone pudding or jelly mold with a pineapple motif and fluted sides, with the impressed mark "MINTON" and incised numbers 57 and 4. The mark indicates this mold was made in England prior to 1873. There is one small hairline in the interior where the side is thinner and would have cracked during manufacture, and no other damage or signs of use. The mold measures 4-1/4 by 3 inches across the top, 2-3/4 inches in height, and 1-7/8 by 1-3/8 inches at the base.

The blunt edges and rounded tip suggest this would be more effective as a page turner rather than for opening letters - but page turners I've owned previously were larger. The fern fronds and ivy leaves printed on sycamore wood are clear and crisp. There is very light wear along the edges but otherwise the condition is excellent. Made in Scotland circa 1870 this piece measures 8-3/4 inches in length.

An ironstone mold made in England circa 1860 with the unusual motif of an apple surrounded by leaves. When set in this mold the jelly or aspic would display the fruit at its top. The base is flat but there is no standing rim indicating this mold is fairly early and was not intended for cooked puddings. Measurements are 5 by 4 inches across the top and not quite 3 inches in height. The mold is in excellent condition with no flaws or signs of wear.
