This little sewing implement is called an emery: steel needles and pins could be stuck into the velvet covered ends to be cleaned and sharpened. Made in Scotland circa 1870 the emery is in very good used condition with two tight splits on the tartan areas and minor losses to the velvet material. It measures 2-7/8 inches in circumference and 1-1/2 inches in length.

This small tartan egg is complete, with an interior spindle to hold threads and needles, including the cap for the needle chamber. It is in gently used condition, with minor scuffing and tartan loss and a small split in the chamber cap, which can be seen in the photos. Paper printed with the Sinclair tartan was carefully applied to form a blue six-pointed star at the broad end of the egg and a green six-pointed star at the pointed end. The piece was made in Scotland circa 1860 and measures 4-1/4 inches in circumference and 2-1/4 inches in length.
