The breton broderie motif (suggesting lace) was used as the border element on these expertly painted platters, made for the Grande Maison HB pottery in Quimper, France, between 1925 and 1930. The central decors are a woman sitting in a field holding a wine or water jug and a man sitting on a rock smoking his pipe. Both figures were hand painted by an artist identified as A (not an amateur pieceworker). The pieces were molded with two holes for hanging with manilla twine. Both are in excellent condition with beautifully scalloped borders. Measurements are 11-1/4 inches by 7-3/4 inches by 1-3/4 inches.
