There are no identifying marks on this highly decorative salt box from Scandinavia, probably Norway. It is made from half of a bowl riveted to a decorative back with a lovely incised swirl and scalloped rim. It was made to hang in the inglenook of a stove, to keep the salt block dry. The workmanship is probably unprofessional (a primitive piece) but with a very decorative result, conveniently pierced with a hole for hanging. Measures ten inches tall, 9-1/2 inches wide and about 5 inches deep.
