This looks to me like a mallard duck, with the male's green head as well as the colors and motifs of Ivoire Corbeille. Although it looks like a duck it is the usual size for holding a chicken egg, four inches long and almost two inches wide. The diameter of the well is 1-3/4 inches. Hand painted in France circa 1930, with some firing issues with the green glaze on the head and a tiny nick on the beak, but no other damage. The cup looks like it was never used, possibly because of the glaze but is nonetheless charming.

Two ceramic knife rests made at the Henriot Quimper pottery in France circa 1930, each hand painted with a man, a woman, and flowers. The styling is very similar on the two but they are probably a marriage rather than having been painted by one person - the sponged decor on the end for the Petite Bretonne is green while the ends for the Petit Breton are blue. Both are in very good used condition with some wear but no other damage. Measuring 3-1/4 inches in length they are being offered for sale as a pair.

Purely stylized flowers and foliage decorate this demitasse size coffee cup with a larger, coordinating saucer, made at the Grande Maison HB in France circa 1950s. The cup is marked with the initials of the painter (PR) while the saucer has only the word France on the underside. The glaze colors used and the painter's hand indicate these were always meant as a set (there may not have been any smaller saucers at the time). Both pieces are in excellent condition. The cup measures 2-3/8 inches in height; the saucer measures 5-3/8 inches in diameter.

Decorated with the typical flowers of Quimper pottery this sandwich tray also is fitted with a wire for hanging on the wall or in a ceramics cupboard. It measures 12 inches in length, 6-5/8 inches in width and 1-1/2 inches in depth. Made in France at the Henriot factory prior to 1940 it is in mint condition with no damage.

An excellent 7-3/4 inch plate in the Breton Broderie design, made in France by Grande Maison HB circa 1930. The hand-painted abstract motif involves thick dabs of glaze that imitate gems inset in the pottery. This plate is in perfect condition, and I have another identical plate. The listed price is for one plate only.

The rooster is a sign of good luck, and this one is beautifully painted on a teapot made in France at the Henriot pottery, circa 1950. The colors are vivid, with additional floral decor, a sponged blue handle, and yellow and blue bands. Including the lid the height is about 8 inches and the condition is excellent, with slight wear on the tip of the spout and crazing showing only in the interior.

A larger size morning coffee or tea cup and saucer made in France by the Grande Maison HB in the 1930s. The depiction on the cup is a petit breton holding a fishing pole, with flower sprays and primitive birds. The shape of the cup's handle was used in the 1930s and the glaze colors are bright, indicating these pieces were manufactured before World War II. The cup is completely marked while the saucer is marked France only. Measurements: the cup is 3-3/18 inches in diameter and 2-1/2 inches in height; the saucer is 6 inches in diameter. The rim of the cup shows light wear. I have another set done at the same time by the same painter, also depicting a man.

A vintage plate made in France at Henriot, signed on the front and dating circa 1935. Some of the decoration was done after glazing, notably the mauve apron that has alligator crazing and the rust colored cuffs. The colors used for the costume are unusual as is the shading of the grass. The base glaze was applied hastily on the back of the plate and there are glaze skips on the scalloped rim but no actual damage. The plate measures 9-1/2 inches in diameter.

Larger than a doll's dish and decorated with a stylized flower this 3-1/4 inch small dish might be more decorative than functional. Very well painted in strong colors the style of painting suggests Art Deco, dating the piece to the 1930s. It is in very good condition with some roughness on the rim but no other damage.

A collection of Henriot Quimper bon-bons made in France, dating circa 1948-1968. All three are decorated with stylized flowers. The latest and thickest piece with the blue border is the most abstract, almost cubist depiction. The diameters are all the same: 3-1/2 inches across the top. The marks are as shown with the dishes reversed in the same arrangement as in the pictures of the decorated surfaces. They are being sold as a collection.

The 8-1/2 inch red clay plate was made prior to 1942 and has a hand-painted decoration in blue and orange. There are a few nicks around the rim, typical in this soft faience, but no other damage. A nice example of non-figural decoration from the Grande Maison.

Signed with the artist's initials RG this hand-painted HB Quimper vase depicts a Breton on one side with a lush bouquet of summer flowers on the other. The vase, made in France circa 1930, measures 5 inches in height, and about 4-1/4 inches in diameter at its widest point. It is in flawless condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, stains or repairs, and unlike some cheaply made Quimper pieces this one is of first quality.

A 13-3/4 inch by 2-1/2 inch console bowl with exuberant floral decoration, made in France by Longwy during the Art Deco era. Longwy's signature turquoise background color is complemented by the jewel tones of the exaggerated blooms and vines. The "crazing" seen on the outside of the bowl is a deliberate ornamentation used at the time. Sadly I chipped the rim of this wonderful bowl, but I've had it professionally restored with the original material, and the repair is invisible from the front, discernible from the back. I've lowered my asking price, as well. There are no other chips, cracks, or stains. The backstamp notations that do not show well are F:3304, D:652.

Mint condition bud vase manufactured in the Deco era by Longwy, the French pottery. The vase measures 3-1/2 inches tall and about 3 inches in diameter at its widest part. The blue base glaze is darker than it appears in the photograph. There is a script mark stating "Longwy" and several other words that are unclear.
