An unusual majolica dish made in the 19th century in continental Europe, most likely in France. Like most majolica it has no identifying maker's mark. A very distinctive motif, possibly delphiniums with a leaf represented in the center of the dish. It is in mint condition and measures 6-1/2 by 6 inches.

Gayday was one of Clarice Cliff's stylized floral patterns, introduced in 1930 and retired in 1934. This hand-painted pin dish is in perfect condition and measures three inches in diameter. The backstamp includes the name of the pattern, indicating this was one of her popular designs.

$135.00

The Higgins studio, located in the Chicago area, made art glass and exhibited at local arts fairs. There were many collectors (including my family). This fluted bowl in orange and purple is a good example of their work although the design is in a smaller scale than their more well-known mid-century designs. In mint condition it measures 7 inches in diameter and is about one inch deep.

The blunt edges and rounded tip suggest this would be more effective as a page turner rather than for opening letters - but page turners I've owned previously were larger. The fern fronds and ivy leaves printed on sycamore wood are clear and crisp. There is very light wear along the edges but otherwise the condition is excellent. Made in Scotland circa 1870 this piece measures 8-3/4 inches in length.

A needle case in the Albert tartan made in Scotland circa 1850. The 3-1/4 inch long case is in perfect condition, and the Albert tartan is not found as often as Stuart or Prince Charlie. Please note: there are no stray white marks on this piece, only camera flashes.

This fernware vesta (match) holder was made in Scotland circa 1870 as a holiday gift or token. The paper banner reads "Merry Xmas/Happy New Year" and is in excellent condition as is the rest of the printed paper covering. There is a bone ferule at the top to hold a small piece of straw called a spill that would be lit by one of the matches stored inside and struck across the emery paper on the bottom. The height is 1-3/4 inches, the diameter is one inch.

$55.00

A hand-painted plate from England made prior to 1930 by Gray's Pottery, depicting an elephant and a clown. The painted scalloped border puts the figures on a stage. The plate measures 6-1/2 inches in diameter, probably intended for a child's tea cake, served in the nursery. In excellent condition with crazing but no other damage or signs of wear. I have two identical plates, the listed price is for one unit.
