Large stoppered Nerox "a petoni" (patches)Decanter by Fratelli Toso in black glass with dark red and hot pink patches, designed by Ermanno Toso. Nerox is black oxide glass (nero = black, ox = oxide), and is a true black glass. This black glass is used to gather up the patches of colored glass to create the "a petoni" pattern on a black ground. There are versions of the patched pattern that use clear glass as the gather, rather than black glass. The bottle stands 16.5 inches (42 cm) tall with the stopper, 13 inches (33 cm) with stopper removed. It has a great long necked bottle shape, and the colors are rich and vibrant against the black glass. The flame shaped stopper, is HOT pink and has a clear glass flange. There is a Fratelli Toso blue and silver round foil export label to the base. In 2006 a similar bottle sold at Wrights for $9000. For reference information see Leslie Pina's Fratelli Toso Italian Glass 1854 - 1980, pages 130 - 131. Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks or repairs. Circa 1965.
