Culture: Greek. Date: 14th - 13th Century B.C. Condition: Intact. Provenance: EX: Prominent East Coast private collection. Measurements: 4.25 inches high, (10.5 cms). Unique in forms, stirrup jars were first produced in Crete towards the end of the moddle Minoan period, (1700 - 1550 BC). This unusual pottery is also know as the "false neck amphora", because what should function as the vessel's mouth between two handles, is a false spout that is capped by a clay disk.
