| "There is, furthermore, opaque white glass and others that reproduce the appearance of fluor-spar, blue sapphires or lapis lazuli, and indeed, glass exists in any color, there is no material nowadays that is more pliable or more adaptable, even to painting. However, the most highly valued glass is colorless and transparent, as closely as possible resembling rock-crystal. (Pliny, Natural History XXXVI.198)". Culture: Hellenistic/Early Roman. Date: 1st Century B.C. - 1st Century A.D. Condition: Intact, Superb, with iridescence. Provenance: EX: New York art market; EX: Prominent U.S. East Coast Private collection. Measurements: 2.25 inches high, (5.7 cms), 5.25 inches in diameter, (13.3 cms. Made of pale green glass. This extremely well made ribbed bowl has 19 prominent vertical ribs, an outward flaring profile and nicely balanced form. An exceptionally beautiful bowl and quite rare in such condition.
