GREEK BRONZE SEATED LION SPOUT, 4th Century B.C.

Culture: Greek. Date: 4th Century B.C. Material: Bronze. Condition: Intact. Provenance: ex: German art market; Ex: American private collection. Measurements: 2.4 inches high (6 cms). This lion appears to be part of an attachment serving as a water spout. There are three circular holes, one towards the bottom, another at mouth where water flow, and a third at chest, which serves as a stopper. Cf: Cat. no. 433A, p. 308, Greek Etruscan & Roman Bronzes, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
