HELLENISTIC FIGURE OF A LEAPING DEER, 3RD-2ND CENT BC
Culture: Greek. Date: 3rd - 2nd Century B.C. Material: Bronze. Condition: Intact, front hooves lacking, with fine green patina. Provenance: Ex: U.S. Private collection; Ex: European art market. Measurements: 5 inches long (12.5 cms). With carefully modeled head and fragmentary horns, and finely incised eyes and brows. Cf: Lot 50(for a similar but standing deer), Sotheby's New York Antiquities Auction, 12 June 2001(est. $5,000 - $8,000, sold for $6,000), also lot 24, Sotheby's New York Antiquities Auction, 14 December 1993 (est. $3,000 - $4,000, sold for $4,600), also Mildenberg Collection, no. 33.
